Inspired by the flora and fauna around Maryland, I make clay works of art that are occassionally functional. I enjoy the connection with the earth that the medium presents. I fire my pieces in wood and soda ash kilns. This presents challenges and wonderful results. The memory of the clay to return to its resting state, even if I try to manipulate it, strengthens my resolve to be true to my message from the inception of the design idea.

Winter Solstice
I am so inspired by the work of Catherine White. Even her blog has a calm sensibilty that I admire. I am lifting this quote from her recent post Winter Solstice #17.
"In winter, consciousness looks like an etching." --Gretel Ehrlich, from The Solace of Open Spaces (Penguin Books, 1986)
