Inspired by the flora and fauna around Maryland, I make clay works of art that are occassionally functional. I enjoy the connection with the earth that the medium presents. I fire my pieces in wood and soda ash kilns. This presents challenges and wonderful results. The memory of the clay to return to its resting state, even if I try to manipulate it, strengthens my resolve to be true to my message from the inception of the design idea.

Small wood fired vase
This charming vase was wood fired with an ash glaze and small brushwork added with black slip. I love the results. It is snowing today, the first day of spring. Maybe I will pick flowers in a few days.

Small nest
Another nest from the kiln. It is frightening to think about the fragile nest being fired to 2300 degrees. But the results are spectacular.
